The LSSO's young players come from many backgrounds. After they leave the orchestra, some will go on to pursue their instrumental studies at a top music college. From there, they may move on and play in one of London's great international orchestras, like the London Symphony Orchestra. Others will decide they would rather concentrate on chamber music or even become a soloist.
However, by no means all of the orchestra's young players go on to become professional musicians; many choose another career. But whether as lawyer, doctor, businessperson, nuclear physicist or bus driver, their experience in the orchestra will have provided important insights into success in life.
They will have learned that excellence demands practice and discipline, that collaboration is a key part of success, and that, through their shared efforts, they can excite an audience and also fulfil themselves.
