Essential Information

The LSSO gives three concerts each year in London's prestigious Barbican Hall. These are usually in January, April and September.

These concerts are usually preceded by courses: eight days of intensive rehearsal and coaching during school holidays. Initially rehearsals are often in orchestral sections (strings, wind, percussion and brass) before the full orchestra joins to rehearse together as a single unit.

The orchestra is managed by the Centre for Young Musicians (CYM), a Division of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Rehearsals usually take place in or near the Centre's offices at Morley College in Lambeth.

Participation in all courses is encouraged but not mandatory. In the case of genuine need, financial assistance is available for course and tour fees.
