The LSSO's young players come from all sorts of backgrounds. The orchestra draws its members from many different London schools and colleges and a huge range of personalities and life experiences are represented.
Each individual member of the orchestra will have their own story as to how they chose their instrument and each will have their own private passion for playing and performing. For a percussionist, the excitement might be the variety of instruments ranged out in front of them. A cellist, on the other hand, might celebrate the fact that the range of their instrument almost perfectly matches that of the human voice. For others, the expressivity of playing a beautiful melody on the violin will be the most important factor.
What brings them all together is the orchestra. Each young player brings their individual skills into the group to create a unique shared experience that is greater than the sum of its parts and enriching in countless different ways.
